From 4 OEM Software’s to 1 Jaltest Diagnostic Package

A Heavy Equipment Technician from another one of our customers accepted a role at a Cooper Equipment location in Alberta. Shortly after starting, he recognized many of the same pain points he had seen at his previous employer.

Most of those frustrations revolved around restricted and inconvenient access to electronic service and troubleshooting tools for manufacturers such as Deutz, Isuzu, Bobcat, and John Deere.

That technician recommended that Cooper evaluate Jaltest as a single diagnostic platform, and he pointed them toward WholeFleet Diagnostics as the preferred supplier due to our strong technical support and customer service.

Getting Familiar with Jaltest

We quickly provided a demo Jaltest unit to this branch and placed it with Ryan, one of the Regional Service Managers. This trial was the first opportunity for Cooper to see Jaltest communicating with – and successfully working on – their varied equipment fleet.

Putting Jaltest to the Test

Soon after, we were in direct discussions with the National Director of Maintenance and the regional supervisory team to evaluate whether Jaltest could be deployed across the entire organization. Because Cooper already relied on multiple OEM diagnostic tools, there were understandable questions about whether Jaltest could fully replace those subscriptions or whether dealer software would still be required.

We were transparent, as we are with all customers: Jaltest is not the OEM software itself, but it delivers a very high level of capability and covers the day-to-day functions needed to get equipment back in service. While Jaltest does not yet handle the occasional ECM calibration or software update, it does provide comprehensive fault code diagnostics, emission system resets, and regenerations across a wide mix of equipment – all through a single software package.

This led to an in-person demonstration and extended trial at another Cooper branch, involving the National Director and the regional supervisors. During that session, we spent half a day successfully connecting to anything in the yard – including diesel generators, skid-steers, paving equipment, and excavators.

Nation Wide Pilot

Cooper did an outstanding job incorporating Jaltest into its processes and guiding employees through the change. Following that final demo, Cooper purchased 6 Off-Highway Jaltest kits and installed them on the existing laptops used by the regional supervisors. This allowed a top-down approach for testing, rollout, and hands-on training with the Jaltest platform.

Once those 6 supervisors were confident with the software and comfortable training others, another 18 units were purchased and distributed to front-line equipment mechanics. Each regional supervisor oversaw the installation, setup, and onboarding of their teams on Jaltest.

Operational Savings

Using Jaltest in just 6 months
Within six months of adoption, Cooper Rentals was able to eliminate approximately 25 dealer service calls per Jaltest kit.
Dealer Level Technicians
Averaging 50 calls/year at around $1,500 per visit = $75,000/year avoided per kit.
Cooper Rentals currently has 24 kits
Over a full year, that translates to potential savings of $75,000/year × 24 Jaltest kits: $1,800,000.

What’s Next For Cooper Rental Equipment?

Cooper Rental Equipment plans to keep expanding its use of Jaltest as the organization grows and opens new locations.

Ongoing collaboration with Cooper’s service technicians has helped WholeFleet Diagnostics capture and share valuable insights about Jaltest performance on specific makes and models common in the rental industry. As these results become better known, we’re seeing increasing interest from other rental companies, from smaller regional fleets to large national players, all looking to expand their capabilities while lowering maintenance costs.

Altogether, replacing OEM software with Jaltest – supported by the WholeFleet Diagnostics team – has already generated an estimated $1.8 million in savings for Cooper.
